Once upon a time, I would frame my Photoshop work painstakingly using a third-party frame that had predefined selection paths hidden in different channels. It was all fine and dandy, except that the only automation I could achieve with it was very much size and aspect-ratio dependent. Since I work with the output of four or five digital cameras that comes in a myriad of different sizes, I decided to switch things up.
I wanted my own Photoshop action that would give me an easy, one-size-fits-all way to frame the image I might be working on at any given time. It would have to work on small and large images regardless of aspect ratio and orientation. I also wanted it to have a subtle amount of that old-fashioned darkroom proof feeling, with smoothly soft edges and every so slightly rounded corners. I believe I've succeeded in creating just that. An example and the action file can be found below.
The action was created on Photoshop CS5, should work with older versions as well, and can be downloaded by clicking here.
